Cloud Programming World Cup 2018 Results Announcement
A total of 17 teams have signed up to The 6th Cloud Programming World Cup (hosted by Cloud Programming World Cup Executive Committee), and 6 teams have been nominated. On 15 November 2018, at Shinagawa Intercity Hall, the World Cup Award and 4 Judge's special prize have been determined through the final open judging.

 World Cup Award
  Entry No. 32
Title: Autonomous Truck Loader using OpenCV
Team Name: Tech.Divas University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila Pakistan
Country: Pakistan

Overview
The project Autonomous Truck Loader using OpenCV comprises of two modules.
  1. A computer vision module developed using python and running as independent application. This module communicates with UC-win/Road through UDP protocol.
  2. A plugin developed in Delphi which acts as a UDP server and receives commands from the python module and updates the simulation accordingly.
The computer vision module is integrated with loader truck on UDP using SDK Plugin. A front camera is mounted on simulated truck for object/ lane detection. The truck mounted camera is calibrated before use, using OpenCV libraries for visual display and Road Lane. The system displays a message whenever it detects an object, reaches out, and collects garbage/lifts snow. Additionally, the system is also capable of detecting pedestrians and other vehicles to avoid any type of collision.

Associate Prof. Tomohiro Fukuda
(Head of judges,
Graduate School of Engineering Osaka University)
  Entry No. 18
Title: The automatic driving man-machine sharing control system
Team Name: ITSCer Wuhan University of Technology
Country: China

Overview

An L3 level auto-pilot and man-machine switching control system will be designed. Based on the driving simulator and UC-win/Road scene modeling, the auto-driving algorithm and driving rights switching mechanism will be programmed into the scene model control plug-in of UC-win/Road ,which will realize the auto-driving function of the vehicle in the scene, and a take-over request will be issued when it encounters an emergency situation. The driver can take over the driving right by operating the driving simulator.

New Jersey Institute of Technology)
  Entry No. 33
Title: Modeling Naturalistic Driver Behavior in Traffic using Deep Neural Network
Team Name: KAI Kookmin University
Country: Korea

Overview

The driving styles of vehicles in the conventional driving simulation software is much different from those of the vehicles in the actual road. The driver behaviors of the virtual vehicles while following the front car, changing the lane, or overtaking the front car are far from the real ones. This limited capability of the existing software gives users constraints on the human-in-the loop experiments on the simulator. To overcome this limitation, in this project, we will develop a driver model with naturalistic behavior in traffic using the deep learning technology and a real car equipped with various sensors including LIDARs and cameras, and implement it into the UC-Win/Road.

Honorable Judge Award Best Optimization Award
Mr. Makoto Sato
(Professor Emeritus of Tokyo Institute
of Technology)
  Entry No. 5
Title: Fire Escape Simulation System
Team Name: IMAX Shanghai University
Country: China

Overview

When there is a fire inside, people will often be panic, and a lot of smoke will reduce the visibility of the indoor environment. The main function of the plug-in we developed is to control the movement of people indoors through the Bluetooth signal of the mobile phone. According to the distribution of fire and location of people, a safe path is planned to help people to get to the safe place.

Title: Improvement of take-over control function in highly automated driving
Team Name: Buaa13ers beihang university
Country: China

Overview

In today's software, there is no way to switch between automatic driving and manual driving through steering wheel and pedal. If you intend to use this software to study takeover between automatic driving and manual driving will be different from the actual way of takeover. So we will add a new way to switch driving mode. In this way you can set a threshold for steering angle of steering wheel and pedal. Once the steering angle exceeds the threshold, the automatic driving mode will switch to manual driving. All of which is based on external logitech steering wheel and pedal.

Title: Passing the intersection in urban road without stopping
Team Name: Fireworking Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture
Country: China

Overview

We track the speed of the vehicle, the distance, the moment of the signal period of the intersection ahead of the vehicle and show the limited speed. Then we can recieve the suggested speed interval, caution and the time remained. The motor vehicle travels at the recommended driving speed and can continuously pass through several intersections without stopping in front of the stop line.

■Comment by Prof. Tomohiro Fukuda, Chief of CPWC Executive Committee

In Japan, elementary schools are proceeding with the preparations for the implementation of programming education that will start in 2020.
CPWC 2018 (Cloud Programming World Cup) is a competition that students create engineering software, business software, and game software they developed based on the develpment kit of FORUM8's UC-win/Road and VR-Cloud.

To the 6th CPWC this year, we accepted 17 entries and had a nomination meeting in New Zealand. At this stage, we gave feedback to each team about points to be concrete and reinforced for the final submission in October, which we eventually received 6 works. All of 6 works with the possibility of being Grand Prix and special awards passed the nomination screening, and we advised them towards the final presentation. In the final presentation on November 15, each team gave a 2-minute video presentation about the characteristics and achievement level of their own developed system. After that, we held the final judgment.

"Autonomous Truck Loader using OpenCV" by Tech.Divas (University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila Pakistan) that won Grand Prix was a system to collect garbage and remove snow. Focused on the automatic recognition technology, this system combines computer vision and VR system. This is a novel and challenging theme for working trucks.
The followings are the Judge's special prizes:
  • Environment Design and IT Award "The automatic driving man-machine sharing control system": ITSCer (Wuhan University of Technology, China)
An L3 level auto-pilot and man-machine switching control system is designed with high skill.
  • Best Optimization Award "Fire Escape Simulation System": IMAX (Shanghai University, China)
When a fire occurs, this system controls the movement of people indoors through the Bluetooth signal of the mobile phone and shows safe evacuation routes. This year, this was the only work not related to the autnomous driving among a lot of works.
  • Design and Computation Award "Modeling Naturalistic Driver Behavior in Traffic using Deep Neural Network": KAI (Kookmin University, Korea)
They developed a driver model with naturalistic behavior in traffic using the deep learning technology and a real car equipped with various sensors including LIDARs and cameras, and implement it into the UC-Win/Road. This work had high quality.
  • IT Innovation Award "Improvement of take-over control function in highly automated driving": Buaa13ers (Beihang University, China)

This year, each works had high quality, and due to it, we juries had to understand minute differences between them at the final judgment. I would like to show an admiration to 6 teams that reached the final presentation. I expect applications from more countries in 2019.
