Title : Car that Knows Before You Do via Deep Learning
 Team Name : VAEGIS
University: Kookmin University  Country : Korea

Overview

Many accidents are unavoidable because by the time drivers are alerted, it is already too late. Predicting maneuvers beforehand can alert drivers before they perform the maneuver and also give ADAS more time to avoid or prepare for the danger. In this work, we propose the intent prediction system based on deep learning algorithms. For this purpose, we equip a simulator with cameras, eye and head trackers, and CAN interface. We develop a sensory-fusion deep learning architecture which jointly learns to predict and fuse multiple sensory streams learn the model and integrate it with simulation software.

Title : Embrace the epoch of automatic driving!
 Team Name : ITSCer
University: Wuhan University of Technology  Country : China

Overview

Add a self-driving SDK to the UC-win/road real vehicle simulator. SDK outputs the surrounding environment information, then achieves the vehicle longitudinal and lateral self-control by controller. Under some certain triggering conditions, simulator could switch to manual driving, controlled by actual driver. Through this experimental platform, we can carry out man-machine switch experiment under three or four levels of automatic driving.

  No. 15
Title : Optimization of Market Layout Based on Customer Behaviors
 Team Name : Seven Dwarfs
University: Shanghai University  Country : China

Overview

This program aims to optimize market layout to improve revenue by lengthening shopping distance. We developed a Kinect application and a plugin of UC-win/Road. The Kinect application collect actions of customers and delivery them to the main plugin. While the plugin reflects actions in UC-win/Road, translates them into interest weights and stores as files. Later it reads data from files to generate better layout based on predetermined algorithm. Then the new layout in UC-win/road is updated and behaviors of recorded customers are predicted and simulated in new layout. The plugin finally shows total distances before and after optimization to users.

Overview

Traffic congestion has been a worldwide problem of the urban and society development. Congestion pricing is one of the Transport Demand and Management (TDM) measures, which makes the traveler's congestion exterior costs internalized. And the results have shown that congestion pricing can relieve congestion to some degree. This subject, a road electronic toll plug-in in the UC-win/Road virtual platform, which can operate automatic charge when identify the vehicle electronic tag. It also provides vehicles counting function at the same time, which can increase practicality and expansibility. This charging device will be installed at a certain road section which should be controlled. Every vehicle pass through the device will be charged automatically by different standards and be counted as well.

Title : Journey around the use of groundwater and sightseeing spots in Echizen Ono City
 Team Name : JKKK
University: Kansai University  Country : Japan

Overview

Echizen Ono City has abundant underground water, and local people use it as living water. And because of its culture from long ago, they call spring water "OShozu".

Considering that groundwater in Echizen Ono City is a valuable water resource that is made up of a combination of distinctive geology and natural water circulation and artificial water circulation in the area, we must conserve this water resource.
Therefore, I made 3D model of Echizen Ono City by using UC-win / Road .

Title : The simulation processing application of Traffic accident
 Team Name : Unstoppable
University: Shanghai University  Country : China

Overview

We developed an application to simulate the various traffic accidents in the city. In this application, we can manually set up a road which has a traffic accident. Users can choose to operate the pedestrian or traffic department. Drivers and pedestrians can quickly avoid accidents based on this application. The transport department can simulate how to reach the accident road quickly. At the same time, the application can compare the effect of traffic accidents before and after treatment. This application can help people avoid traffic accidents and help transport department handle the actual traffic accident even better.

Comment by the chief of the judging committee
■Comment by Prof. Tomohiro Fukuda, Chief of CPWC Executive Committee

CPWC (Crowd Programming World Cup) is a competition to seek a new possibility of VR software, and the 5th competition was already held this year. Participants of this contest combine their young ideas and compete their application development based on the development kit for UC-win/Road and VR-Cloud of Forum8.

When cherry blossoms started to bloom, application to the competition began on the theme of "Your way of thinking is a path to undiscovered treasure". We received 27 project plans, the largest number ever, from six countries: Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, China, Korea, and Japan. In July, we had a selection meeting at the MIT in Boston. Each and every work was given feedbacks that have room for improvement towards the submission date in October. Nine works were handed in before the nomination selection. Juries evaluated each work on the basis of evaluation items of idea, possibility of practical use, programming ability, presentation, and perfection level. Eight works made advance to the final presentation. On 16 November, each team did a final presentation for two minutes, and the juries on stage voted for the first and second place via the VR-Cloud system.

"Car that Knows Before You Do via Deep Learning" by VAGIES (Koomin University, Korea) that won the prestigious Grand Prix is a work aiming to enhance the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Predicting maneuvers beforehand can alert drivers in advance so that they can have more time to avoid or prepare for the danger. For this purpose, they equip a simulator with cameras, eye and head trackers, and CAN interface. They develop a sensory-fusion deep learning architecture which jointly learns to predict and fuse multiple sensory streams learn the model and integrate it with simulation software. The quality and the perfection level of the proposal were by far the best, and all juries evaluated as the first place at the final judgment.

The followings are the works that got the Judge's Special Prize.

  • The Environment Design and IT Award was given to "Embrace the epoch of automatic driving" by ITSCer (Wuhan University of Technology, China). A self-driving SDK is added to the UC-win/Road real vehicle simulator. SDK outputs the surrounding environment information, then achieves the vehicle longitudinal and lateral self-control by controller. That allows drivers to switch manual driving and automatic driving.
  • "Optimization of Market Layout Based on Customer Behaviors" by Seven Dwarfs (Shanghai University, China) won the Best Optimization Award. This program aims to optimize market layout to improve revenue by lengthening shopping distance. The Kinect application collect actions of customers, and the data is transmitted to and recorded in the UC-win/Road Plug-in.
  • "AugReal" by Penguin Gakuen (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China) graced the UX Award. This is a trial to connect a VR environment and user's smartphone by AR. when users hold their smartphones over markers set in a VR space of UC-win/Road, new AR 3D models such as buildig are displayed on the smartphone. The models appeared on smartphone can be operated.
  • "The Electronic Toll Gate of Urban Road" by 666 (Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, China) won the Traffic and City System Award. They developed a plug-in which can operate automatic charge when identify the vehicle electronic tag in order to realize the ERP (Electronic Road Pricing) system installed in cities in the purpose of the Transport Demand and Management. Every vehicle will be charged automatically by different standards and be counted as well.

Record-high 27 work plans were submitted to the CPWC of this year, but only nine teams could complete their works. I think this shows the difficulty of making up a system. On this point, I want to pay respect for eight teams having made advance to the final presentation. I look forward to receiving many more works from around the world next year. In addition, many teams were not able to convey the selling point of their own developed system enough in comprehensible way at the final presentation. I also hope that they continue to make efforts and improve their skill.
