Results Announcement

On November 17th 2022, at Shinagawa Intercity Hall and online, the World Cup Award and 4 Honorable Judge Award have been determined through the final open judging.

▲Awards Ceremony (Nov. 17th 2022 at Shinagawa Intercity Hall and Online)

  • World Cup Award

Entry No.24 KAAD, Kookmin University (Korea)

    TAP(Traffic Accident Prediction)
    • Our project aims to create an Anomaly Detection model for prevent accident and so on assist the driver in performing safe road driving. First, we abstract object's position, optical flow from UC-win/Road. Next, Input the features to the anomaly detection model in the PyTorch environment. Based on unsupervised learning, anomaly detection models are trained with normal data. Anomaly scores are derived from anomaly detection model. Finally, check the driver's gaze point using eye tracker, we send warning to the driver when driver is careless with abnormal objects. Additionally, we warns the driver if the driver is drowsy driving.

  • Honorable Judge Award Environment Design and IT Award (Prof. Tomohiro Fukuda)

Entry No.17 SOS-Team, Shanghai University (China)

    EXTREMELY FAST RESCUE
    • The speed of response and rescue of police, paramedics and firefighters is crucial to people's lives and health. The competition was themed as speed rescue and set up in the form of a breakout game. We used UC-win/Road software to simulate police stations, hospitals, fire stations and other places distributed in the city streets. Players select the appropriate person according to the emergency phone number in the warning screen, use the keyboard to move their position and go to the rescue location, and the final competition will be scored according to the arrival time and the best path.

  • Honorable Judge Award Best Optimization Award (Prof. Makoto Sato)

Entry No.23 MT Girls, Sugiyama Jogakuen University (Japan)

    Mobility-Support Robot for Relaxation
    • We developed a mobility-support robot for relaxation. The robot with a cute voice and motions advises drivers to make them relax. The robot monitors two types of data: "driver's operation data (Steering, Throttle, and Brake)" and "driver's biological data (EMG)". The EMG is a biological data to measure nervousness level. If the standard deviation of EMG is higher than threshold, the driver is considered as nervous. On the basis of above data, appropriate robot's voice is selected. For example, the voice "You are too nervous. Just relax and drive!” is activated if the driver is nervous.

  • Honorable Judge Award Creative Solutions Award (Prof. Taro Narahara)

Entry No.7 Timer, Beihang University (China)

Research on pedestrian crossing and vehicle behavior decision under automatic driving environment
    • Based on the pedestrian simulator, we designed a three factor experiment to investigate the effects of various factors, such as time pressure, on pedestrian crossing characteristics.Using UC-win/Road 15.1,we set up an experimental scenario to complete the acquisition of experimental data. The processed experimental data were analyzed and a pedestrian decision model was developed through the game matrix. For the vehicle decision model, we combined the output of the pedestrian model and a simple kinematic model to build a reward model for the vehicle, and the final result was obtained by continuous iteration of the algorithm.

  • Honorable Judge Award Traffic Safety Innovation Award (Mr. Yoann Pencreach)

    Entry No.20 Nijigaku, VinUniversity (Vietnam)

    Nijigaku Traffic Radio
    • The outcome of the work is a UC-win/Road plugin that simulates the detection system, and a mobile application that simulates the participation in the alert system from other drivers. The UC-win/Road plugin uses the scenario to simulate accidents, then triggers a notification to a cloud alert server. The server will broadcast the notification to nearby drivers with voice notification, Android push notification services so that they will be informed of the situation and make appropriate decisions, such as providing assistance to the victims. Nearby police and ambulances will also be informed.

  • Nomination Award

Entry No.15 Safe and Secure, Suwa University of Science (Japan)

Construction of a simulation to experience slip accidents
    • Slip accidents may occur in freeze or wet road conditions. One possible cause of this is the influence of the friction force of the road surface and the amount of driving operation (speed, steering, brake). By establishing this relationship in the vehicle model created in this study, it is possible to reproduce vehicle behavior according to the road surface conditions (wet, snow and freeze). This simulation will help to prevent accidents by enabling drivers to experience more realistic vehicle behavior for slip accidents.

  • Nomination Award

Entry No.19 LGBM, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (China)

Reserved Trip Simulation Using VR Technology
    • The transportation network is the link among road travelers. The timely acquisition of travel information (OD, travel time) of road travelers and timely feedback to reserved travelers can enhance the connection between road travelers. Our team uses VR technology to feed back the information to each reserved traveler. This simulator could improve people's perception of future routes and the network, and help strengthen the connection among travelers.

  • Nomination Award

Entry No.26 Pioneers, Wuhan University of Technology (China)

Research on collision generation and dissipation mechanism based on naturalistic driving data
    • The plug-in we developed has two main functions, one is to generate background traffic flow based on the processed natural driving data, making the driving experience more realistic; the other is to provide real-time feedback on conflict warning information and display it to the in-vehicle terminal and UC-win/Road to alert the driver.

Result of 1st Round Screening

Participants are expected to hone their original ideas and to skillfully showcase the features and differences of their works

On July 12th, all juries gathered and held a 1st round screening at the FORUM8 head office, and 24 entry teams were selected. The entry teams are supposed to create and submit works, and the final judging and award ceremony will be held at the Design Festival 2022-3Days in November after the advance nomination judging.

Some teams include VR simulations, data analysis and system development proposals, and ideas for connecting people more closely in the game, autonomous driving, and transportation fields. Participating teams are expected to hone their original ideas and to skillfully showcase the features and differences of their works for the nomination selection in October. We look forward to seeing the students demonstrate their abilities and take on unprecedented challenges.

Past Award-Winning Works

  • The 9th World Cup Award

    SC-Team, Shanghai University (China)

Driver Emotion and Abnormal Behavior Detection and Warning System
The main function of the plug-in developed by us is to detect drivers' emotions and abnormal behaviors in real time, and feedback the results to the mobile web terminal and UC-Win /Road in real time. When the driver is detected to be angry, sad and other extreme emotions, the system will display a warning message to remind the driver to keep a good mood and play soothing music on the mobile web to ease the driver's mood. When it detects unusual behavior such as yawning, drowsiness, eating or smoking, the system will send out red warnings and voice alerts on the phone. So that drivers can maintain good driving habits, reduce the incidence of traffic accidents.
